Patrick J. Kennedy Receives Capital Clubhouse Award; Senator Joe Kennedy Accepts on His Behalf
On October 23, former U.S. Rep. Patrick J. Kennedy was honored with a special award for mental health advocacy during the Capital Clubhouse Benefit Reception at the New Zealand Embassy. Congressman Joe Kennedy III delivered remarks and accepted the award on his cousin’s behalf.
Clubhouses are community-based centers that offer members a path to recovery from mental illness through friendship, meaningful work, and access to education and housing. Started in 1947, Clubhouses have become an important complement to clinical treatment in fostering recovery from mental illness, with some 300 Clubhouses around the world serving over 100,000 members.
The Capital Clubhouse recently received Medicaid reimbursement certification, which will allow them to serve more people in the metro DC area.
